Aston Villa latest club to show interest in Jack Butland- Sky

Aston Villa win promotion

Aston Villa won promotion to the Premier League after seeing off Frank Lampard’s Derby County in the 2019 Championship play-off final.

Villa, at one point in the season, looked very unlikely to even make the playoffs.

However, towards the back end of the 2018/19 campaign, Villa would go on a 10-match winning run that saw them finish the season in 5th.

Aston Villa then beat West Brom in the play-off semi-finals before seeing off Derby in the final.

Dean Smith’s side will kick-off their 2019/20 PL season with a tough test away to Tottenham on August 10th.

Villa join Butland chase

After securing promotion, Villa have already been pretty active in the transfer market.

Their first move of the summer saw Villa sign Jota from close rivals, Birmingham City.

Then on Thursday, it was announced that Villa had signed Brazilian striker Wesley from Belgian outfit, Club Brugge.

The BBC have reported that Villa’s fee for Wesley is a new club record, previously held by Darren Bent.

Villa do not seem to be showing any signs of slowing down in the market though.

According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa have joined Bournemouth in their pursuit of Stoke City’s Jack Butland.

Butland was a standout performer for Stoke last season. Despite them finishing 16th in the league, they only let in 52 goals in 46 games, the 4th least in the Championship last season.

However, Sky claim either Stoke or Bournemouth would have to bid in excess of £20m to land the Englishman.
