Transfer clause pays off in the end!

Everton have earned an unexpected £1million from Norwich City after they were promoted to the English top flight last month.

The Toffees were known for their impressive dealings back when David Moyes was in charge.

Despite spending very little, Everton remained a contender for European football for many years.

Though, that has changed somewhat in recent seasons.

After Farhad Moshiri took the reigns, Everton have made several big money signings.

In the last summer transfer window, the Toffees signed all of Richarlison, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Bernard.

Though, despite their new financial power, the club are still going about their business shrewdly.

Shrewd business from the Toffees

That is because due to a clause in Steven Naismith’s 2016 move to Norwich, Everton will bank £1million from the Canaries’ promotion.

The Scottish forward was a pretty successful signing for Everton, joining from Rangers for free.

Naismith scored 25 goals in 67 starts but eventually fell out of favour at Goodison.

That lead to his Norwich transfer three-and-a-half years ago.

While that deal is said to have banked Everton £8million, the Toffees are set to receive an extra £1million.

According to the Liverpool Echo, ‘chairman Bill Kenwright negotiated that deal and insisted on inserting a clause which meant the Blues would receive a further £1m windfall should Norwich City return to the Premier League.’

Naismith is still on Norwich’s books but is currently on loan at Scottish side Hearts.

While it’s been a long time coming, Everton’s shrewd negotiating has paid off.

Everton will likely strengthen heavily during the current transfer window.

After a decent first season under Marco Silva, the Toffees will no doubt look to challenge for a top-six spot in the next campaign.

One player who could help them do that is Jean-Kevin Augustin and Everton have already contacted his club.
